Company Profile
Upper Occoqaun Service Authority
Company Overview
The Upper Occoquan Service Authority (UOSA) is a state-of-the-art water reclamation plant located in Centreville, VA. UOSA was created in 1971 to transform the Occoquan Watershed from a largely rural area to a predominantly urban/suburban region mandated by the Occoquan Policy.
UOSA shatters the old paradigm of a facility designed to simply treat wastewater and dispose of it. The UOSA treatment plant is an engineering marvel, and the flow that enters UOSA’s plant as wastewater, leaves the plant as purified water that meets drinking water standards. UOSA’s purified water is not only a boon to the environment and to water quality, but a resource that augments the region’s drinking water supply. In fact, UOSA is a “resource recovery” center that has been nationally recognized as a “Utility of the Future” by the National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA).
Company History
The Upper Occoquan Service Authority (UOSA) is a state-of-the-art water reclamation plant located in Centreville, VA. UOSA was created in 1971 to transform the Occoquan Watershed from a largely rural area to a predominantly urban/suburban region mandated by the Occoquan Policy.
In 1978, the UOSA Regional Water Reclamation Plant, commenced operations and replaced eleven small secondary treatment plants in the region. Since that time, water quality in the Occoquan Reservoir has steadily improved and the reliable, high-quality effluent produced by UOSA has increased the safe yield of the Reservoir.
UOSA’s product water flows by way of Bull Run to the Occoquan Reservoir, a major water supply source for over 1.3 million people within the areas, which include Prince William County, Fairfax City, City of Manassas and Manassas Park. We pump 54 million gallons of water per day and sit on 455 acres.
A major factor in the successful operation of UOSA is its highly trained and dedicated staff. All employees undertake, very seriously, the mission of UOSA to deliver and treat wastewater in its advanced water reclamation system to protect and augment the water supply for over 1.3 million citizens.
