Plans, organizes and directs the operations of the Public Works Engineering Division. Serves as a member of the Public Works leadership team.
Salary: $108,326.40- $151,652.80 annually
Successful completion of a pre-employment background check, physical examination (if applicable) and drug screen are required prior to employment with the City of Cedar Rapids.
Examples of Essential Duties:
Supervises the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
Manages the development, design, bidding, and implementation of all Public Works capital improvement projects.
Manages and implements the Public Works Department capital improvement projects (CIP) budgets and the Engineering Division operational budgets. Reviews and approves all expenses associated with CIP projects and Engineering Division operations.
Communicates and coordinates Engineering Division projects and activities with other City Departments, stakeholders, local neighborhood associations, civic organizations, and external agencies.
Collaborates with the City Communications Division on interactions with local media outlets for Engineering Division related activities.
Improves, implements, and administers policies and procedures to increase the efficiency and effectiveness of departmental operations.
Develops and presents policy updates and new policy to City Leadership and City Council.
Performs related work as required.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in Civil Engineering or a related field and
Nine plus years of experience in public works design, construction and engineering or
An equivalent combination of education and/or experience
Extensive organizational leadership and staff management experience
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Experience with budget planning and managing large operational and capital budgets
Proficiency with Microsoft Office
Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse population
Required Licenses or Certifications:
Licensure as a Professional Engineer in the State of Iowa or if issued by another state, the ability to obtain within 6 months
