Santee Cooper is currently seeking a Controller to provide strong leadership over all accounting matters of Santee Cooper. The Controller reports to and works closely with the Chief Financial Officer. He/she is required to provide accurate and timely financial statements in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Standards and other applicable accounting standards and requirements. The Controller also partners with peer financial leadership to recommend and implement financial strategies across the organization.
The position is directly accountable for the overall administration, management, planning, and supervision for the following corporate functions:
Financial Accounting & Reporting
Asset & Project Accounting
Essential Job Responsibilities:
Planning, organizing, and directing all accounting functions.
Hiring, training and retaining a competent and capable accounting staff.
Preparing accurate and timely financial statements for internal and external stakeholders.
Providing Santee Cooper management (including the Board of Directors) with financial information vital to the decision-making process. This includes the participation on internal corporate teams and committees.
Coordinating activities of external auditors.
Evaluating current accounting operations and internal control systems, and implementing improvement opportunities.
Staying abreast of and reacting to changes to accounting rules and their impact on Santee Cooper.
Strengthening and evolving a culture that facilitates continuous improvement and strong employee engagement.
Position requires a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Administration, or Economics or a closely related field.
Candidates must have fifteen years of financial accounting experience, including at least five years in a leadership capacity. Will consider ten years of financial accounting experience with combination of CPA or advanced degree.
Candidate should have extensive knowledge of accounting standards and procedures, including a solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) and Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB).
He/she must be a seasoned and mature leader with a demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, develop strong working relationships, and get results through others. CPA, MBA, electric utility experience preferred.
