The City of Champaign seeks qualified candidates for a career opportunity as an Engineering Technician III in the Public Works Department.
Responsibilities of Position
This position performs skilled technical work in the office and field in connection with City infrastructure programs and projects, including management of routine or complex Capital Improvement Projects. Primary responsibilities include plan and specification development and construction inspection of City sanitary sewer projects; writing and reviewing routine and complex reports related to City infrastructure design, construction, operation, or management; and receiving, investigating, and responding to service requests related to sanitary sewer issues.

Associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Construction Technology, or a related field and four years of experience as an Engineering Technician II or equivalent, OR
Bachelor’s degree in a field related to the design and construction of buildings, roads, streets, bridges, storm and sanitary sewers, street lights, or traffic signals and two years of experience as an Engineering Technician II or equivalent, OR
Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Ability to provide excellent customer service to various stakeholders.
Good knowledge of sanitary sewer design and construction inspection.
Good knowledge of mathematics, including Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry.
Ability to plan, organize, implement, and manage projects.
Valid state-issued driver’s license and good driving record.
Good knowledge of AutoCad and GIS mapping.
Ability to review sanitary sewer video logs and identify deficiencies and needed repairs.
Good knowledge of drafting, surveying, monitoring construction site traffic control, materials testing techniques and equipment.
