Postdoctoral Fellow - Groundwater Modeler

Summary: The Oklahoma Water Survey at the University of Oklahoma seeks to hire a post-doctoral research fellow in the area of groundwater modeling. The primary responsibilities for this position will be to develop innovative and robust models to improve the State of Oklahoma’s understanding of groundwater and water resources, and to produce high-quality publications that will advance water science and technology. The position is available immediately and will be an initial 12-month appointment with the possibility of extension pending performance and availability of funding for a second year.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Required Qualifications: The successful candidate should hold a Ph.D. in Civil, Environmental, or Water Resources Engineering, geology, or a related field in physical hydrology or hydrogeology. Candidates will have experience in numerical modeling of groundwater systems and general hydrogeology, preferably using the MODFLOW family of codes. Candidates should have refereed journal articles in the areas of hydrogeology and groundwater modeling, and experience working in a collaborative research environment. Good communication skills (clear written and spoken English) and ability to participate in and coordinate collaborative research is required.
Preferred Qualifications: Prior experience with large-scale numerical models and skills in parallel and high performance computing is desired. Ability to test relevant hypotheses and generate innovative solutions to hydrogeological (e.g. water budget) problems and effective communication of modeling results and assumptions. Strong programming skills and a fundamental understanding of stochastic processes and statistical analysis methods will be beneficial. The project will involve significant interaction with local experts and stakeholders, therefore, good interpersonal skills are preferred.
