Under direction of the Superintendent of Utilities-Production & Treatment in the Public Works Department, this position oversees the repair, installation, and construction of various portions of the City’s activated sludge wastewater facility and associated remote pump stations/reservoirs. Assists in directing the activities of work crews engaged in the operation and maintenance of City’s Production & Treatment facilities. Inspects plant, lift stations and water production operations; inspects the work of subordinates and contractors; assures proper maintenance & servicing of equipment; maintains an awareness of rules & regulations as they pertain to the Utility industry.
The Production and Treatment Division is responsible for the 20 million gallon per day (MGD) activated sludge wastewater treatment plant (Elmhurst Water Reclamation Facility or EWRF) with 10 sanitary sewer lift stations and the 15.0 MG capacity water production system which utilizes three large finished water reservoirs and three elevated storage tanks; plus 12 storm water pumping stations, 4 storm water reservoirs and numerous ancillary systems.
Associate Degree in a closely related field.
Minimum five years’ experience in wastewater treatment plant and/or potable water supply operations and maintenance including lift station and water production operation experience.
Minimum two years’ experience in a management position overseeing staff, operations, maintenance of water/wastewater systems.
Class I Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator's License as issued by or acceptable to the Illinois EPA desired; must obtain within 12 months of hire.
Class "C" Public Water Supply Operator Certificate desired; must obtain 12 months of hire.
Current Valid driver’s license.
Class B-CDL required within 6 months of hire.
Knowledge of and ability to work with computer database systems; CMMS preferred.
Prior work experience in a public/private, water/wastewater environment.
Considerable knowledge of laboratory testing process and expected results of sludge processing biology and techniques.
