The City of Lee’s Summit Water Utilities Department serves 35,000 accounts with three divisions (Operations, Engineering and Business Services) supported by a total of approximately 65 FTE’s. The Operations Division operates and maintains water distribution and wastewater collection systems comprised of approximately 1200 miles of pipeline, 35mg of water storage, numerous pumping facilities, Excess Flow Holding Facilities and a robust SCADA system.
This professional position is responsible for assisting the Director of Water Utilities in the management of the department by managing the overall operations of the water distribution and wastewater collection systems. This position is responsible for short and long-range planning, managing people, finances, equipment, technology and other resources related to the utility system and its infrastructure. The Assistant Director of Operations provides critical leadership, strategic planning and vision by assisting the department achieve its goals relative to maintaining customer confidence by providing efficient, safe and reliable water services.

Minimum requirements include:
Bachelor’s degree in engineering, environmental science, construction management or related field required and
Minimum of ten years’ experience related to the operation and maintenance of wastewater collection and water distribution systems, 5 years of which being in management and
Department of Natural Resources Water DS III License required within 12 months of hire and
Valid State motor vehicle operator’s license and acceptable driving record required
