The Manager of Wastewater Environmental Services is responsible for supervising a range of activities that deal with ensuring that discharges released into the East Bay Municipal Utility District’s (EBMUD) wastewater and interceptor systems are environmentally compliant. Additionally, the manager ensures that the wastewater revenue program is appropriately and effectively conducted.
The manager provides leadership, proactive outreach and coordination with community and business groups and other public agencies in the development of new wastewater source control and pollution prevention initiatives as well as providing leadership for the continued growth of the innovative Resource Recovery Program.
The most competitive candidate will be:
well-informed about current federal and state wastewater regulations and issues
familiar with public sector rate and revenue programs
knowledgeable and experienced in dealing with regulatory matters
experienced in communicating complex issues to the public
experienced in managing staff and developing programs and
knowledgeable in regulating and monitoring a comprehensive wastewater interception treatment and disposal system.
The annual salary is $147,528 up to $213,096. Initial placement within the range is based upon qualifications. Appointment is typically made at or below the control point ($191,784 per year).

A bachelor’s degree, or its equivalent, with major work in chemistry, biology, environmental science, engineering or other closely related field and three years of supervisory experience in an organization that provided a technical knowledge of wastewater collection and treatment processes or three years of supervisory experience in water/wastewater treatment, environmental inspection, wastewater process evaluation, or discharge compliance monitoring, inspection, and industrial permitting.
Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.
Must possess the physical characteristics to perform the critical and important duties of the job.
Must be willing to work overtime as needed.
