Waste Management has an exciting opportunity for a Manger to manage a transfer station and the CORe organics processing facility in Brooklyn.
This is a great opportunity for someone with a background in organics processing or wastewater treatment operations to manage multiple sites.
I. Job Summary
Manages the day to day operations of a transfer station and the organics processing facility.
II. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Other minor duties may be assigned.
Monitors transfer stations' work processes, procedures and expenses, and establishes programs which drive team performance toward departmental and organizational goals.
Ensures smooth operation of multiple transfer stations, including: gatehouse, sorting, loading.
Reviews and evaluates work to ensure quality, timeliness and ensures quality control in adherence to policies and procedures.
Minimizes handling and operational costs and off-site impact.
Interfaces frequently with Director of Operations for further opportunities.
Coordinates with sales for opportunities.
Coordinates with MRF COE and Director of Operations to adjust site operations as commodity prices fluctuate.
Regularly proposes means of improvement.
Responsible for oversight and management of operations, including organic material receipt, organics processing, product quality control and production oversight, product storage, transport, and delivery.
Ensures smooth operation of receiving facilities at participating WWTPs.
Administers and ensure conformance to contracts with participating WWTPs
Assists with inbound sales for complementary liquids and other organic waste streams, including assessing compatibility with final EBS™ quality standards.
Coordinates and conducts visits to SSO customers and potential customers, to support sales and ensure compliance with acceptable inbound material criteria.
Manages QA/QC program, including internal and external sampling and testing, for EBS™ products in accordance with off-take contracts.
Communicates and interfaces effectively with employees, supervisors, vendors.
Develops and interprets organizational goals, policies and procedures, and reviews and updates project plans as appropriate.
Maintains a clean, safe work environment in compliance with OSHA/Corporate Standards.
The normal shift would be from 6am -4pm Monday through Friday with one Saturday per month. These hours could be adjusted as the business warrants
III. Supervisory Responsibilities
The highest level of supervisory skills required in this job is the management of supervisory employees. This includes:
Direct supervision of 3 full time employees consisting of operations supervisors.
The requirements listed below are representative of the qualifications necessary to perform the job.
A. Education and Experience
Education: Bachelor's Degree (accredited) or in lieu of degree, High School Diploma or GED (accredited) and four years of relevant work experience.
Experience: Seven years of relevant work experience (in addition to education requirement).
B. Certificates, Licenses, Registrations or Other Requirements
C. Other Knowledge, Skills or Abilities Required
Strong knowledge in organics process operations preferred
Background in handling putrescible waste would be preferred
Mechanical knowledge specifically related to pumps/motors/hydraulics.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office, strong computer skills require, proficiency in data generation and interpretation.
The position will require developing a thorough understanding of WM’s organic recycling process, maintenance of the organic recycling equipment, production of EBS™, and managing EBS™ product quality
General knowledge of wastewater treatment and anaerobic digestion, product sampling, and laboratory analysis.
Experience with heavy equipment operation and the ability to troubleshoot the organic processing equipment
Proficiency using PLC based SCADA control systems.
